Abu Ali, a bookseller in Baghdad’s famous "Al-Mutanabbi Street" (شارع المتنبي) passed away this week surrounded by his books.
This street is a well established area for book selling and has often been referred to as the heart and soul of the Baghdad literacy and intellectual community. It is named after the famed Iraqi poet “Al-Mutanabbi.”
The attachment Iraqis have to the written word is stunning.
From creating the first written language, to boasting some of the greatest intellectual minds of all time.
